At least one person was injured when an explosive device detonated outside a station in Germany on Wednesday. The bombing in the German city of Munich comes on the eve of a national vote on Sunday in which Chancellor Angela Merkel is defending her position.
The device was found in a backpack parked outside of the railway station and explosives experts detonated it, the second explosion reported in Munich in the past two weeks.
Germany’s interior minister, Horst Seehofer, blamed the new bombing on the far-right.
“The latest explosion is further evidence that the poisonous and violent right-wing extremist scene will do everything to ruin the CDU-CSU election,” Seehofer said, referring to the country’s center-right Christian Democratic Union and the Christian Social Union.
The explosion wounded a police officer and three others, according to German news agency dpa.
One man was arrested in connection with the blast, a police spokeswoman said. According to local reports, the man had been randomly picked up in the subway around the time of the explosion and appeared calm after the incident.
An explosion in the city of Dortmund left two people wounded in a similar attack, and an explosive device was found in the same city in April.
