Jack Dorsey has stepped down as C.E.O. of Twitter.

The status update has been sent from Dorsey’s profile account at Twitter. “I am no longer C.E.O. Of Twitter,” Jack Dorsey’s profile said. The message was also sent from a Twitter employee’s personal account in the same format.

After the news went viral, a spokesperson from Twitter confirmed to Mediaite that Dorsey is no longer the CEO of the social media site.

In 2013, Dorsey was named CEO and co-founder of Square, a mobile payments company based in San Francisco. He has stepped down as CEO of Square.

Dorsey also resigned as chairman of the board of Square.

Dorsey has been a big supporter of presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

This has not been yet been confirmed by Dorsey or Twitter.
